What I like is how the FDA says that BPA isn't harmful in one sentence and in the next tells you not to eat/drink from plastics that have a certain number on the bottom.

Wish I had found your blog sooner.
I am always surprised at the people that think the FDA is making decisions to keep you & your family safe. I wish we had new people coming into office that would but a halt on the FDA filling their pockets with money while putting us at risk. heck, the FDA gets at least 1/2 of their funding from big pharma - now we know why you can have prescription drugs pushed on TV, radio, and our local public school system. Just think how the health care system would have less stress if everyone could learn the facts of natural nutrition. Wow, I just fixed health care reform!
Ok, I will stop before I get to involved or I will have a whole post written.
Thank you for sharing this info & getting even more people the info they need.

Erg, I really need to stop buying water in plastic bottles. There are so many reasons not to, just from an eco-friendly standpoint, and now health stuff too.

I'm glad you are ranting about this! It's time for people to know the FDA is not protecting us and it takes way to long for them to test anything. The testing is done after the product has harmed too many people.
Thank you for this ranting post - I'm right there with you...

It's good to see someone get angry about that. Organizations like the FDA were set up to protect the consumer, but these days they only really protect the financial interests of the industry groups. In "The China Study" Dr T. Colin Campbell blows the whistle, citing specific incidences, where these organizations ignore scientific findings in favor of industry pressure. The FDA is made up of people with close ties to pharmaceutical companies and the food industry (especially meat, dairy and egg producers).

We have to understand that they don't have to prove a product is safe. They only need to claim that it's safe, thereby muddying the waters and confusing the public. The public gets bombarded with conflicting information and in the end, weary of it all, just follows the path of least resistance.

@Christine: yep, our power as a consumer is definitely underestimated. The problem is, you never know what has it and what doesn't. Another convenient oversight. For us, we're not too affected I don't think, since we've moved so far away from packaged, processed foods, soda, etc. - BUT, we are having to replace all of our baby bottles with glass ones actually, and a couple of BPA-free ones. But it's worth it!

@FBG: Hi Jenn - yeah, something is DEFINITELY wrong with that process. Uggh.

@Usman: For sure - it's definitely worrisome.

Chemical in Plastics Linked to Diabetes and Heart Disease - Thanks for Nothing, FDA...

The FDA continues to appease political friends by refusing to do anything with the clear evidence that BPA exposure is tied to diabetes and heart disease. What are they smokin'?...
