I have been struggling with weight loss for many years. I’m not overly obese, but everytime I gain any weight I lost within months.

I think I have a mindset problem. I read an very interesting and enlightening article at OptimalBodyWeight.com (a website I like and trust)about this issue. Check out their article Weight Loss by Fixing your Life with Tony Robbins. It makes a lot of sense to me.

Good Luck..

Hi, this is my first time to your blog. Someone else mentioned you were one of her favorites to read and you were back! So, I had to go check it out. I loved this post! I agree with most everything except breakfast is very important! It breaks the fast your body has been doing all night. It starts your metabolism. I could go on and on! Every tried a green smoothie? Awesome for breakfast!! Great nutrition too!

I'll be back for more! Your right on with whole foods in moderation! Cannot wait to eat my veggies from my garden this year!!!

Wishing you much success in your journey! Rhonda

This is the first time I have found your blog. I am a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to these sort of sites. I am really relieved to have found someone talking along common lines. I have struggled with my weight for the past 20 years - not obeses, just a lot heftier than I would like to be. I grew up in the UK (child of war child parents who made you clear your plate!), have lived in France & Spain so understand all your comments about there & now live in Australia which is also fairly "supersized". Just wanted to make a couple of comments on your list:
16. Use real sugar. Have you tried rapidura sugar which is the dehydrated cane juice? Nutrients retained & delicious
19. Focus on the reason you are overweight. Ii is often challenging to discover the reason for our issues with our conscious mind. As a kinesiologist I find it's best to test up people for not only food intollerances but emotional blocks allowing the individual to release them. Using affirmations to get over the reasons rather than focussing on why I got this way is much more useful and productive.
28. Juices are deadly because of the sugar dump. Aim to juice & retain the fibre reducing the GI content.
30. Breakfast is crucial. Often when we are not hungry on waking this is a strong indication that we are insulin resistant. Think the rationale to do with why we rebound eat mid morning without having had breakfast is to do with insulin levels too.
31 Timing of meals. We need to not only shift the types of food we intake but also increase the frequency dramatically in the initial stages of changing our diets. I know the french don't really snack but having an allocated snack box of things like nuts, fruits and lean protein is better than going to the vending machine especially for someone who has a tendancy to work through lunch breaks. One "snack" I find useful when I have the sugar craving "munchies" is licorice tea - sweet, no calories & good for you.
34. Be present & mindful of what you are eating. SO true!!
37. Not had a try at Twitter so would be interested to hear more

Thanks for the blog & the opportunity to respond. It won't be the last time I visit.

Best wishes from Melbourne............ Jane

Yes, Yes and Yes! I love all of these suggestions and can really relate to #43 not staying up too late because that is always a snacking time. A couple tips from my life: keep Trader Joe's Bread and Butter pickles in your frig for mid-meal snack attacks. They are sweet and salty and vegetables! I find that they really satisfy mid-meal cravings. (The jar goes fast and makes my husband nervous as we have three children already.) Another tip is to start out the day with a fruit smoothie using a whey protein powder, hemp or flax meal powder and either raw cow/goat milk, hemp or almond milk. The protein and fiber jump-starts your metabolism, and while you might find yourself hungry again late-morning, it's a great time for a handful of almonds (or pickles!) Thank-you for this very thoughtful list, I know that I will refer it, and refer to it again and again.

Action does help with motivation. That is what I need. I have sure dropped the ball. I get into these stints of "I really don't care" Thing is, I do. Thanks for the inspiration.

Good to see you back posting! And I agree with most of your list. Breakfast was always hard for me, but I really find that eating it helps so much because I don't eat excessively later.
